We are glad you have been paying attention to the automatically generated emails coming from Moodle.
We started hiding courses in the Fall of 2021. This was an attempt to slow the growth of Moodle. Moodle creates a nightly backup of all courses that are set to “show” and this is important for courses that are active and changing daily. Moodle does not create new backups for hidden courses. We do not hide courses until they are 1 year old as these courses will not be accepting student submissions or be updated regularly. Email moodlesupport@tru.ca if you have a Moodle course that does not fit this guideline.
We started archiving courses in the Fall of 2023 as hiding courses did not slow the growth enough and Moodle became so large (12.7 TB, the server size is 13 TB) that we were worried if it failed or reached capacity it would be unrecoverable. Currently, we archive courses after they are 2 years old.
Email moodlesupport@tru.ca if you have a course that will remain active after it is 2 years old.
